THE EARL EXPERIENCE

Q: What does my registration fee include:


The Scruggs Style Banjo Camp is a one-of-a-kind camp with world renowned, expert level instructors and a chance to experience the ​legacy of Earl Scruggs. Held at the Earl Scruggs Center, campers will receive instruction in the Center’s Great Hall, participate in ​discussions about the life and career of Mr. Scruggs, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the Center.


Attendees will also receive a camp t-shirt, camp binder, and credentials. Other perks include an Earl Scruggs Center membership and ​discounts in various Uptown Shelby restaurants and shops.


A light breakfast will be provided to attendees on Friday and Saturday, as well as snacks and coffee during the day.



Q: Where is the Earl Scruggs Center located and how do I get there? 


The Earl Scruggs Center is located in Shelby, NC, about an hour from Charlotte, NC, Asheville, NC, and Greenville/Spartanburg, SC. The ​closest airport is Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which is about 50 minutes from the Earl Scruggs Center. We are located about ​20 minutes from I-85, 40 minutes from I-26, and one hour from I-40.


Q: What will the camp schedule look like and include?


Camp will begin in the morning on Friday, March 7 and will conclude in the late afternoon on Saturday, March 8. A detailed schedule ​will be released in early 2025.


We encourage you to arrive on Thursday, March 6, if possible, to scope out the area and prepare for camp. You may check in and pick ​up materials during the afternoon of Thursday, March 6.


The camp schedule will include sessions with instructors and “behind-the-scenes” opportunities to learn about Earl Scruggs’ life, the ​collection and work of the Earl Scruggs Center. Outside of camp sessions, opportunities to gather socially, jam, or listen to local music ​will be available in the evenings.



Q: What about food? What are the options around the Earl Scruggs Center?


A light breakfast of fruit, pastries, and coffee will be provided before camp sessions begin on Friday and Saturday. The camp will also ​provide limited snacks and coffee during break times during the day.


Attendees are encouraged to visit Uptown Shelby restaurants for a larger breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
